If your ostomy is new and you are going home for the first time:
Get extra supplies, and prescriptions for medications.
Know when/what/how to contact your healthcare provider should you have any questions.
Make sure to keep your parents informed if anything changes or you do not feel well.
Keep any follow-up appointments and write down any questions you might have so you can talk about these at your next visit.
You and your parents’ work with the school to determine what schoolwork you may have missed and how you will return to school.
Take time to rest and recover from your surgery, follow any healthcare provider recommendations, and report any changes or concerns.
If you have been in the hospital and are now returning home:
Follow all recommendations from your health care provider.
Report any changes or concerns.
