Managing Your Ostomy
Alongside Crohn’s Disease
Let’s add a bit about what is page is about here. A quick overview of what this section is for.
Dietitians who specialize in digestive ailments are crucial to an IBD patient’s care and become even more important when transitioning to an ostomy. In some advanced IBD Centers around the country, GI-focused dietitians work with gastroenterologists and/or colorectal surgeons to coordinate care around diet as well as nutritional supportive therapies to patients and their families. Many registered dietitians also work privately and help manage their patients’ dietary needs in conjunction with their doctor’s advice.
To find a dietitian who specializes in digestive diseases, you can visit the International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD) for a listing of U.S. and international dietitians. Another website to search for a GI dietitian is the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
