Welcome to the East Denver Metro Ostomy support group!
Our meetings are for potential, new or experienced ostomates, their families and caregivers. All patients with urinary or fecal diversion, whether conventional or continent, are welcome.
We are sponsored by the University of Colorado Hospital (UCHealth). We are open to the public, and you do not have to be a patient of UCHealth.
We are an affiliate of the United Ostomy Associations of America (UOAA).
Our group is led by a certified ostomy nurse.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life for people with ostomies through education, information and moral support.
This is a great way to meet other ostomates, share experiences and advice, and ask questions. Support groups are proven to support self-care, social interaction, and hope.
There will be either an expert speaker or vendor speaking at the beginning of each meeting that will provide useful information, such as caring for an ostomy, nutrition, coping skills, types of surgery, etc. This will be followed by a round table session amongst the members. A certified ostomy nurse will be leading the sessions and will be available for guidance.
