- Increased communication to the medical community: UOAA is now providing its support groups with an instructional manual on ostomy care to be presented as an in-service to home health care nurses and agencies across the nation.
- Inspiring confidence within the medical community: UOAA’s new DVD demonstrates the proper techniques for a volunteer to visit a person who has, or is planning to undergo, ostomy surgery. The film is used in conjunction with the Visitor Training Manual.
- Showing new ostomates that they will have a good quality of life after surgery: “Living with an Ostomy” is a new DVD that dispels the stigmas and myths surrounding ostomy surgery. Your contributions produced 1,000 copies that are being distributed to support groups and medical professionals for viewing by patients.
- Endless possibilities to increase public awareness of ostomies: You can “Twitter” us, visit us on Facebook and join the community of ostomates on our discussion board.
