The 2014 UOAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference is coming in May 2014. Registration is open for this event. Those in the Mid-Atlantic area are probably thinking that winter will never end and can’t envision a beautiful spring in Northern Virginia. The conference will have great entertainment, such as:

Keynote speaker at Saturday morning’s opening session – Mr. Lou Lawrence. Lou holds a BA from Virginia Tech/St. Leo College; an MA from George Washington University, and he did some doctoral studies at Virginia Tech. He has been the in Defense Industry for over 35 years. Lou is a Subject Matter Expert in Human Factors Engineering. Currently Lou is President of On Point Solutions which provides consulting services in the areas of capture management and proposal management. A recent Urostomate (2011), Lou offers an insightful presentation called “The New Normal.” I can guarantee that you won’t want to miss this!

Our evening Banquet speaker, perhaps needing no introduction, is Brenda Elsagher. Brenda has been an ostomate for 19 years and is a national keynote speaker, author and comedienne. She has authored four books: “If the Battle is Over, Why am I still in Uniform?”, “I’d Like to Buy a Bowel Please!”, “Bedpan Banter” and her latest “It’s in the Bag and Under the Covers.” Brenda provides real talk laced with amusing anecdotes and hilarious laughter. You won’t want to miss this experience.

We will also have superb workshops, such as:

“Sex & The Ostomate: Go Ahead & Have Fun.” A look at dating, intimacy, sexuality and care giving, including emotional and self-esteem issues. The leader for this workshop, an ostomate herself, is Aileen Gould. Aileen holds an MS and is a Nationally Certified Counselor, New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Psychotherapist, and

“Advances in Ostomy Surgery,” which is focused on all types of ostomies, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. This workshop will be led by Dr. Othon Wiltz, MD, FASC, FASCRS of Washington Colorectal Surgery. Dr. Wiltz has been named one of the top doctors in the Washington, DC and Northern Virginia area by both the “Washingtonian Magazine” and the “Northern Virginia Magazine” in 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013.

We will have exhibits headlined by Hollister Incorporated, Coloplast and ConvaTec, plus others.
